Hello, this is Kei!
I am going to explain 「HOST CLUB(MALE HOST CLUB)」 in Japan today.
Some call it a “ladies’ club,” but I’m going to use the term 「HOST CLUB」 here. When searching for clubs in Japan, copy and paste the word 「ホストクラブ」, leave a space, and then enter the name of the place where you are.
▼ What is「HOST CLUB（MALE HOST CLUB）」?
What is a 「HOST CLUB」? It is a “restaurant” where male hosts sit next to female customers and make water, talk with them, and drink with them.
Outside of the apprenticeship period, a host’s income is determined by his sales, so the hosts use all of their abilities to entertain their female customers 100% by any and all methods available to them.
Some of the methods used to increase sales are to get them talking over drinks, to be nice to them and pretend that they are best friends that they can talk to about anything, to dance with them, to sing karaoke with them, to meet them outside of the club on dates, and to show them that they are interested in them, hoping that they will fall in love with them.
They may actually have sex with her, and make her think they are real lovers, or act like they are fiancées with a scent of future marriage.
By the way, 「HOST CLUB」 are places where women go to have fun, so there are very few places that only allow male customers. If you really want to go to 「HOST CLUB」, you should take a woman with you. If you do, all the clubs will accept you.
▼ Attraction of 「HOST CLUB」
＜#1＞ Looks are great
Anyway, there are a lot of handsome hosts on the staff, so it’s a feast for the eyes, and talking and drinking with such handsome hosts will make you forget all the bad things you’ve done, which will give you energy for tomorrow.
＜#2＞ You can become a princess
Not only the host who is in charge of you (the one you are permanently assigned to), but also all the hosts who come to help you call you “princess” and give you a lot of attention, making you feel like a special person. In everyday life, you may be called ugly or fat and not be taken seriously by anyone, but at 「HOST CLUB」, you are treated like a popular princess.
＜#3＞ Champagne tower
The glamorous and fantastic “champagne tower” that you order for your host’s birthday or some other special occasion is so beautiful that once you see it, you will be captivated by its beauty. The higher the number of tiers of glasses, the more expensive the expense, but it’s well worth it.
＜#4＞ Champagne call
The champagne call is a performance in which all the hosts in the club gather together and shout and sing along with the champagne as it is opened, poured, and drunk, to express their gratitude to the customer who filled it.
＜#5＞ Communication with hosts
Hosts are good communicators, so they don’t ask questions that women don’t like. They are also good listeners. They listen well, give good advice, never say anything negative, and in the end, they accept you as you are.
The luxurious and glittering atmosphere inside 「HOST CLUB」 is something out of the ordinary. If it is your birthday, you will be given a surprise bouquet of flowers or a piano played just for you, and the space will make you feel like you are in a dream.
＜#7＞ Support hosts
In order to avoid problems between hosts, most 「HOST CLUB」 have a permanent nomination system, and once a woman is nominated as a host in charge, the amount of money spent in the club after that will be counted as the host’s sales. The host ranking depends on the result of the sales, so even if you are a rookie host, depending on the sales, it is possible for you to become “number one”. In other words, you can enjoy the fun of supporting the growth and development of your favorite host.
▼ Price of 「HOST CLUB」
【First time fee (trial fee)】
60 minutes／1000 yen～
This is a plan for new customers that is available at most clubs. The details vary from club to club, but most offer a 60-minute all-you-can-drink package for 2000 yen (tax included). Be aware, however, that ordering anything other than the all-you-can-drink menu is an extra charge.
【Set charge (table charge)】
60 minutes／4000 yen～
This is the regular set price that you need to pay the second time around, and is also known as the table charge (TC). It is charged once you enter the club and are seated.
There are five types of nominations at 「HOST CLUB」, so let’s take a look at what they mean and how much they cost.
Nominating 「HOST CLUB」 member based on the picture on the panel at the club or the picture on the website.
Nominate a host in the club.
Nominate a host who will see you off on your way home.
Most 「HOST CLUB」 have a “permanent nomination system”, which means that once you nominate a host, you will be in charge of that host forever unless he quits, so you cannot change your nomination. Of course, all the money you spend goes to the host’s sales.
Even if you have a host in charge, you can call him to your table as a helper. The nomination fee will be based on the performance of the host who receives the help nomination.
It’s the tax and service charge on the amount you pay. At cheaper clubs, the tax is 10% and the service charge is 10% for a total of 20%. However, if you go to a more expensive club, you may be charged 10% tax and 40% service charge, for a total of 50%.
By the way, the most expensive bottle kept at my friend’s club is “Hennessy Richard”, which costs 3 million yen per bottle! The pricing of drinks varies greatly from club to club, so make sure you know what you’re getting before you order.
The food menu also varies from club to club, so be sure to check the menu list before ordering. These days, more and more clubs are hiring chefs to prepare authentic dishes, so even if you don’t see what you’re looking for on the menu, there’s a good chance they can make it for you.
▼ Business hour of 「HOST CLUB」
「HOST CLUB」, which are regulated by the Entertainment Establishments Act, are not supposed to be open from midnight to sunrise, so most of them generally close by 24:00. However, there are many clubs that operate with separate hours, called “First business, second part business” or “first part business, second part business, third part business”.
The first part is “open from evening until midnight”, the second part is “open from sunrise until noon”, and the third part is “open from noon until evening”.
※Some clubs are only open for first or second part, so check their website for details.

▼ How to use 「HOST CLUB」
For those of you who have never been to 「HOST CLUN」 before, I’ll give you a brief overview of the process.
First of all, look for a club you want to go to or a host you want to meet on a website. The key to choosing a good 「HOST CLUB」 is to find a place that has been in business for a long time and has a high rating on word of mouth or ranking sites. There are also clubs that offer special coupons and discounts, so be sure to take advantage of them when you find them.
Once you have decided on the club you want to go to or the host you want to meet, contact the club and see if they are friendly on the phone. If they don’t seem nice, you should avoid them, because some of them are still doing rip-off.
Once you’ve decided on the date and time of your visit, you’re off to the club! There’s no dress code, so you can wear whatever you want, but as an image, I think it’s best to dress like you’re going to meet someone you like.
Arrive at the club! If you’ve made a reservation, let’s say your name at the front desk. If you don’t have a reservation, be honest and tell them it’s your first time.
※It is against the law to serve alcohol or tobacco to minors, so you will be asked to show an official photo ID at the entrance on your first visit.
Finally, entering the club. The gorgeous and glamorous club has VIP rooms, pianos, karaoke rooms, and other facilities. Some of the larger clubs even have show times and live bands.
Once you’re seated, the staff will explain the system, including the fees, so listen carefully. Of course, it’s okay to ask questions if you don’t understand. The explanation will include the nomination fee, food and beverage, tax, and service charge.
After the explanation is over, the host you designated when you made the reservation will serve you, but if you didn’t designate a host, you will be shown a menu called “Male Book” which is like a collection of host photos, and you can choose from there. If you can’t make up your mind based on the pictures, you can honestly tell them your preference, “I prefer someone with this kind of personality”. I’m sure they will do their best to meet your request.
For the first time, the hosts take turns changing seats one after another in intervals of about 10 to 15 minutes, and the same goes for the hosts selected from Male Book. In other words, you’ll be introduced to as many hosts as possible in the time available.
One thing to note here. I’m sure it was explained to you at the beginning, but even if it’s the first time you get the all-you-can-drink deal, be aware that if you order drinks or food outside of the all-you-can-drink menu, you’ll be charged extra.
The 60-minute fun time was over. So in total, you got to talk to four to six hosts. After all the hosts had left the table, the designated person came and asked, “Who would you like to be sent to? Tell them the name of the host you want to be sent to.
Send-off nomination refers to a host who gives you a walk to the exit or elevator hall. The host will then happily come back to your seat and see you off at the end of the night.
What did you guys think? Was it fun?
Recently, there are more and more 「HOST CLUB」 that allow only men to enter, so if you’re interested, please go there! There are a lot of entertaining hosts, so I think not only women but also men can enjoy themselves.
See you later, guys!
That was Kei!
